Property Info
Location. The Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn, nestled on two acres, is four blocks from the lake in the city of Big Bear Lake, Calif. Bordered by the San Bernardino National Forest, this inn is one half-mile from the Moonridge Zoo and four miles from the Bear Mountain Ski Resort and Big Bear Mountain Golf Course.
Hotel Features. This historic log cabin-style lodge was built in 1920 by William Knickerbocker, the first Big Bear Lake "dam keeper", as a private home for his family. The inn consists of four buildings, with the interiors retaining the original rustic charm and ambiance, and the exterior surrounded by stately pines. A library, sitting room, game room, hot tub, meeting facilities, patio and forest and lake-view verandah are all available for guests' use. There is a meeting and private function room in a separate, updated building. A complimentary two course gourmet breakfast is served each morning, as well as an afternoon tea. The inn's on-site restaurant, Bistro at the Mansion, is open Saturday nights, and offers fine options such as filet mignon, tuna steak, lamb, and shrimp. On-site parking is free.
Guestrooms. Guestrooms are enhanced with antiques, quality linens, and natural cedar paneling. All units are equipped with direct-dial telephones with voice mail, high-speed Internet access, cable televisions and VCRs. Some units also offer a writing desk, fireplace, bathrobes and CD and DVD players.
Expert Tip. A bullet graze inside the kitchen door frame (one of a series of bullets fired during a boisterous card game) gives evidence to some of the colorful history of the Knickerbocker Mansion.

From San Bernardino International Airport:
Start out going north on South Leland Norton Way toward North Leland North Way.
Turn left onto East Rialto Ave.
Turn right onto Del Rosa Dr.
Turn right onto East Third St.
Turn left onto Victoria Ave.
Turn right onto 5th St.
Merge onto CA-30 W via the ramp on the left, toward San Bernardino.
Merge onto CA-330 N toward Mountain Resorts and continue for 15 miles.
CA-330 N becomes CA-18/Rim of the World Hwy and continue for 12 miles.
Turn right onto CA-18/Big Bear Blvd.
Continue to follow Big Bear Blvd for four miles.
Stay straight to go onto Village Dr.
Turn right onto Knickerbocker Rd and continue for 3/10 mile to the property. |
